The Kitchen
Though beautiful before, I wanted a lighter, brighter space with a larger island, and ethereal feel. With white, I could intersperse the classic cleanliness with delightful or seasonal pops of color. Functional and Classy, meet your new friend Whimsy!
-
Certainly not a bad neutral earthy palatte.
-
I find solace in a monochromatic scheme with pops of contrast.
-
Notice the gorgeous granite tile and blonde wood! Nothing wrong with these lovely touches, but it remains important to make a space personal.
-
It especially helped our family to expand the island, and bring in the stools. I love the look and space of a pot rack, too.
-
The original tiling and spice colored cabinetry are beautiful, they just weren't the right space for our family.
-
Accentuation like fresh flowers from the garden, and the oversized utensils above the cabinets bring the zing to the peaceful color palatte.
-
Personally, I don't love tiled counter tops. They're harder for food preparation and cleaning, I think. That doesn't make them wrong, just wrong for us!
-
The under-mount and extra deep sink combines with the arching oldtime faucet to create function I am SO on board with. I can fit more dishes, and hence wait longer to do them!
-
A glass cabinet or two is always great for showing off the collections of tableware we're most proud of. Also a chandelier goes GREAT to spruce up the chore of dishes.
-
Some typically highly functional things, like an appliance box, may not be for everyone! As you can guess, I removed this one.
-
By removing the top mounted stove, I could cut out cabinetry and install a double oven stove, freeing space for pantry where the old double oven used to be (not pictured).
-
One of my favorite additions was tiling in the back splash with basic white subway tile, and using a gray tinted grout. Classic beauty with a modern twist!
The Dining Room
Modern but warm was the goal here; a feeling of eating in a space that has depth but also vibrant life, a sense of sophistication, but also accessibility and livability.
-
A beautiful space waiting to be filled!
-
A top-to-toe makeover with a focus on elegance that is user friendly.
-
A large dining room space is truly decadent. How grateful I felt to have this area for design!
-
A cabinetry build-in, refinished floor, kid-friendly cleanable rug, a gorgeous chandelier, glass cabinetry, side seating, lots of plants, ceiling tiles, and a water feature are all pieces of the revamped space.
-
A ceiling with built in features already was a canvas hungry for something gorgeous.
-
Voila! 24" X 24" ceiling tiles with surrounding trim.
-
Another view.
-
The dining room sits right off the kitchen, with an open and a doorway entry between.
-
In the absence of a hutch, I opted for a build in of open shelving and a functional bar, which matches the kitchen countertops as a tie in.
-
Side seating gets utilized often when using the dining room for visit time or dessert.
-
A corner water feature brings perfect ambient sound with it's visual beauty.
-
Nothing compares to the perfect beauty brought to a room by a little round face popping up behind the chairs!
The Entry Way
The first taste of our home's interior seeks to set the tone; I want our space to invite and bring peace. Heather would have especially loved this area, she always wanted a home with a proper entry way area for greeting and entering.
-
It really is a beautiful space for entering; a great area for reception.
-
It was important to me to have warm colors and family pictures greeting anyone who enters. Also, I think a stand of plants brings life and vibrance.
-
It's beautiful, to be sure. But the blonde wood, and blue/tan tile wasn't the right feel for our family. Never be afraid to change things up!!
-
Large earthy tiles, white accents, dark wood, and yes - a newly painted red front door - revitalize the entry.
-
The colors of the earth, photos of things that matter, and clean lines all add up to warm and softly modern.
The Family Room
Designed as a place for resting, visiting, or curling up with a book, our front room features purposefully comfy seating and not too much run-around space; this is a room for settling in!
-
The light from the full front windows helps make this an incredible reading, receiving, family room.
-
The close, overstuffed seating brings inviting comfort.
-
There's not much better potential for a room than to start with lots of natural light.
-
The feel of our family room is enhanced by browns, greys, and soft purple hues; all accented by pops of white.
-
the great ceiling angles create beautiful whimsy, though I had nothing to do with that! :)
-
The large mirror in the back was a thrift store find by Heather, which we framed with painted chair-rail trim.
-
A hanging light in any room boosts the elegance factor; even just these chinese-lanterns plugged into the switched outlet.
-
It's a beautiful original feature, to have the opening and railing between the family room and dining room.
-
Adding the lower white trim to the walls, and painting the railing with dark enamel helped make things pop with a modern feel.
-
The space is great, but I felt it really needed darker colors.
-
Aaaaand color change accomplished! It brings the calm that our family needs in our home.
-
Stacking these tiny shelves with meaningful articles above each other helped take beautiful advantage of the higher ceiling on this side of the room.
